The Million Dollar Question: How’d I Get Here?
I’m neither scientifically nor mathematically inclined, so I was destined to pursue a career involving people. Understanding the way people operate has always captivated me, so there wasn’t much of a surprise that I was drawn to Human Resources.
I regarded my role in HR as solving problems through people. HR has that dual role of managing risks for the organization and supporting the employees. Because that human element exists, I often found myself defusing some highly charged situations within teams and between individuals.
Many of the challenges I saw as an HR leader stemmed from ineffective leadership.

I discovered that many leaders don't receive training or coaching and 'wing it' when it comes to people leadership. Leaders are often the most under-developed population in an organization, yet are a critical determinant an organization's success.
Like many HR professionals, I found the need to keep the train moving down the track and support HR operations took precedence to development, so I decided to create VLM Coaching & Consulting to fill the gaps in leadership development that prevent leaders and organizations from being successful.
